A new headteacher assumes her new role this week at a school near Ripon, it has emerged.

Fountains School in Grantley, a village near Ripon, is to see Jill Pemberton make the step up from her post as deputy headteacher, a post which she held at the school for five years, according to the Darlington and Stockton Times.

Mrs Pemberton said that she was fortunate to work with staff and pupils at the school, adding that she hoped to build on the already successful environment the school provided pupils.

Ian Savage, the school's Chairman of the Board of Governors, said that Mrs Pemberton was a "popular choice" with both fellow teachers and pupils.

He continued: "She has quickly settled in to her role, bringing some fresh ideas. Fountains is a high-achieving school and we are confident Jill will lead the school to further success."

Last week, the Ripon Gazette revealed that a team of "Eco Warriors" was created by teachers and students at Roecliffe Primary School as part of the Big Tidy Up initiative.ADNFCR-1162-ID-18895217-ADNFCR
