Exam officers

Many secondary schools now have an exams officer: a non-teaching member of staff who submits exam entries, organises timetables, oversees the exams themselves and processes results.

The National Assessment Agency (NAA) provides training and support for exams officers. Its website includes information on:
  • training opportunities, including free courses available both online and at venues across the country
  • one-to-one support, from a team of 40 field officers whose role is to share effective practice with exams officers
  • good practice, including guidance on many aspects of the job together with case studies
  • invigilator resources, including a recruitment poster and training materials for new invigilators, and
  • tools to enable exams officers to complete previously time-consuming paper-based tasks quickly and easily online.
