Masters in teaching and learning

The masters in teaching and learning (MTL) is a new professional qualification for teachers, designed to fulfil the Government’s ambition to make teaching a masters-level profession.

The masters programme will be available from September 2009, initially to all newly qualified teachers recruited in the north west of England, and to newly qualified teachers and new heads of department recruited in September 2009 to all National Challenge schools across the country.

The MTL aims to further improve teacher quality to raise standards in education, narrow gaps in attainment and give children better life chances.

The TDA is working with higher education institutions and schools across the country to develop this national programme, along with social partners, the Workforce Agreement Monitoring Group (WAMG).
