Receiving the outcome of HLTA assessment and next steps

Following moderation, you will receive an award letter via your regional provider of assessment informing you of your result. This should be within eight weeks of your school visit.

The outcome

There are three possible outcomes:

  • Standards met: all the standards have been met and you have achieved higher level teaching assistant (HLTA) status.
  • Partial reassessment: some standards (up to a maximum of three) have not been fully met. This implies that you were judged to have met all but a small number of standards, and the weaknesses in relation to these standards were modest in nature. Your regional provider of assessment will advise you on the most appropriate next steps.
  • Standards not met: there is insufficient evidence that all the standards have been met and you will therefore not be recommended for HLTA status. Potentially this could relate to just one standard if the evidence provided suggests the need to undertake further training or development.

Next steps

If you don’t gain HLTA status you will receive written feedback on your assessment outcome within a week of receiving your result notification letter.

In deciding what next in terms of your continuing professional development, you should discuss your options with your mentor and/or line manager.
